Who Says Animals are Dumb?

As we approach Shabbos I will leave you with this lovely picture that I received from a friend. This is the story that accompanied the picture:

She was pregnant. He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carry her out of the house into her front yard~then he continued to fight the fire.

When the fire was finally out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest. A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper noticed her in the distance, watching the fireman. He watched as she walked straight towards the fireman~and wondered what she would do.

As he raised his camera, she went up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her unborn babies~and kissed him~just as the photographer snapped the photograph above. He called it The Kiss.

Animals know who to value in this world and show their thanks without reserve~we should all take a lesson from them!

May Gd Bless the Firemen, and those who selflessly give of themselves, to rescue us, protect us, and make our world a little bit better each day...Shabbat Shalom

The Soul and The Afterlife~Where Do We Go From Here?

Every year there is a Torah convention of the foremost international Jewish leaders and thinkers called Sinai Indaba. If you go to the site there is a wealth of information. The speakers are from around the world and the talks given during this convention are always interesting. Thanks to the internet those of us who can't attend these events are able to listen to the lectures.

Rabbi Manis Friedman is a world-renowned counselor and philosopher on emotional wellbeing, self-help and spirituality. He has attracted international attention with his book, Doesn't Anyone Blush Anymore: Reclaiming Intimacy, Modesty and Sexuality in a Permissive Age (which is currently in its fourth printing). In fact, Bob Dylan described the book as a must read, saying: "anyone who is either married or thinking of getting married would do well to read Friedman's book"

Rabbi Friedman is the Founder of the first ever women's yeshiva and hosts his own cable television series, "Torah Forum with Manis Friedman".

For anyone who has ever pondered about the "soul", or wrestled with the question of what happens when we are nifter, this talk is for you...

You're Only As Old As You Feel~Age Is In Your Mind~Hmmm

At  86 years young, Johanna Quass, from Halle, Germany, holds the Guiness Book of World Records title for World's Oldest Gymnast. Anyone watching her routine has got to be blown away!

Johanna said that she practises gymnastics only twice per week, but every day she does an hour of some sport or exercise~usually swimming or a walk. She claims that one is never too old to begin~Just find the sport that is right for you (whatever that may be) and get started. So--for all of us who make excuses and can barely tie our shoes, we've just been pwned (big time)!

What she can do at this age is unbelievable! Gd has truly made us to be amazing beings!

Tisha B'Av~The Anxiety of Dusk: The Serenity of Night

Rabbi Shmuel Braun
Thanks to an invitation from a dear friend (some two years ago), I have been priviledged to attend the shiurm of Rabbi Shmuel Braun

I have followed his shiurim online and (Baruch Hashem) have recently had the merit to hear his teachings at Shabbos meals.

Rabbi Braun has travelled the globe giving workshops and classes on topics encompassing the entire spectrum of Jewish thought. He is a student of Philosophy and strives to give his students deeper understanding of Judaism as it relates to the world. He takes an interest in dialogue with all people~observant, traditional, secular~Jews and non-Jews alike. Those who have studied with him appreciate his ability to take the loftiest concepts in Jewish mysticism and connect them to everyday life in a way that students from any background and level of knowledge can appreciate.

Rabbi Shmuel Braun is a beloved teacher, mentor, lecturer and is now in the process of putting his works in writing. I am also told that he currently has a Blog and Teaching Site under construction. Of course I will post all information as soon as it is available!

In the meantime, I would like to share one of his inspired lessons on the preparation for Tisha B'Av. May we merit the coming of Mashiach today so that tomorrow will begin a day of celebraton, if not, May our Fasting Be Meaningful...
