El Hanaar Hazeh by Shira Choir

Shira Choir

For this boy I prayed!
For you my dear son I prayed to Hashem, Hashem kindly fulfilled my wishes,
You my beloved son will always remain in my prayers
and I will always look after you,

The words to this song were adapted from Hannah's prayer for a son...I Shmuel 1:27

27] For this child I prayed;
and the LORD hath granted me my petition which I asked of Him;

The Gemarah in Brachos (lamed alef:) brings a beautiful explanation of what this verse means.
It asks, what does Chanah mean when she said she prayed for this youth. The word hazeh, this, implies Chanah was saying when I prayed, I prayed for this youth specifically and not another youth. What does that mean?

The Gemarah answers by saying what actually happened in a very interesting story that clearly needs more scrutiny to understand what actually happened:

When Shmuel was serving Eli, a problem arose with regards to offering up a korbon (offering to G-d). There was no Kohen available to shecht (ritually slaughter) the offering. As the people were running frantically around searching for a Kohen, young Shmuel stood up and proved from a pasuk that actually any Jew could shecht a korban, the Kohen just had to offer it up.
They brought Shmuel in front of Eli and Eli said that he had taught correctly and was right but because he had taught a halachah in front of his rebbi, which is ossur, he was chiyuv missah (liable to death, whatever that means in this case). He told Chanah that she would have another, better child.

Chanah came in front of Eli and pleaded for Shmuel, saying "El hanar hazeh hispallalti" "I prayed for this youth", specificaly this one! He is perfect and I don't want a 'better' child. His life was, obviously, spared.

These words aren't just nice, sweet words; these are the words of a mother pleading for her child's life and emphasizing how her child, with all his imperfections, was just perfect.

What could be more powerful than that?
