Another "Great" Has Passed On~George Jones (81)

The early hours of Friday morning saw the passing of Country Singer George Jones. While I was never a real country music fan, I did live for a time in the middle of nowhere, where country was the only thing that was considered music~and George was considered a  king.

George Jones had a reputation as a hard drinker with a raging temper, and a "no show" among other things~but no matter what, he could sing country and chalked up around 150 hits over his career. He continued to perform right until he entered hospital last week.

Over the years I have heard most of his songs. I remember his signature mournful note as he sang of loves lost and heartaches in a way that is not heard today. My favorite was one of his last, and the words, I think, are very true.

Rest In Peace George~I do wonder who will fill your shoes...

George Jones (12 September 1931~26 April 2013)

The Words Are Telling...
Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?
You know this old world is full of singers
But just a few are chosen
To tear your heart out when they sing

Imagine life without them
All your radio heroes
Like the Outlaw that walks through Jessi's dream.

No, there will never be another-Red-headed stranger
A Man in Black and Folsom Prison Blues,
The Okie from Muskogee
Or Hello, Darling
Lord, I wonder who's gonna fill their shoes?

Who's gonna fill their shoes?
Who's gonna stand that tall?
Who's gonna play the Opry
And the Wabash Cannonball?
Who's gonna give their heart and soul, To get to me and you?
Lord, I wonder who's gonna fill their shoes?

God bless the boys from Memphis
Blue Suede Shoes and Elvis
Much too soon left this world in tears

They tore up the Fifties
Old Jerry Lee and Charlie
And "Go, Cat, Go!" still echoes through the years.

You know the heart of country music
Still beats in Luke the Drifter
You can tell it when he sang I Saw the Light
Old Marty, Hank, and Lefty, Why, I can feel them right here with me
On this Silver Eagle rolling through the night.

Who's gonna fill their shoes?
Who's gonna stand that tall?
Who's gonna play the Opry
And the Wabash Cannonball?
Who's gonna give their heart and soul To get to me and you?
Lord, I wonder who's gonna fill their shoes?

Yes, I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes?...

The Story of The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising~Never Forget!

Jewish youth today, are being assimilated. Many have become "ashamed" of their roots and identify with the heroes of the countries they live in. Even in Israel, most are not aware of the bravery and heroism of their Jewish ancestors~an appalling situation considering what it took for the Jewish People to survive thousands of years and re-build the State of Israel.

On  19 April 1943, exactly seventy years ago, thirteen thousand Jews were killed during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Of those, some some six thousand were burnt alive or died from other causes. The Germans had planned to liquidate the Warsaw ghetto in three days, but the heroic ghetto fighters held out for more than a month, with only the most rudimentary of weapons and their own determination.

Mordechai Anielewicz, was the leader of Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa (Jewish Combat Organization), also known as ŻOB, during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising from January to May 1943. As the fighting in the ghetto continued, Anielewicz and senior ZOB fighters retreated to the ZOB Central Bunker at 18 Mila Street. On 08 May 1943, the bunker was discovered, its five exits were blocked, the main entrance was broken open, and canisters of poisonous gas were thrown inside.

Icchak Cukierman, also known by his nom de guerre Antek, or by the anglicized spelling Yitzhak Zuckerman, was another of the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Zukerman survived, the war and later testified for the prosecution in the trial of Adolf Eichmann.

On 23 April, Anielewicz wrote to Zukerman, who was on the "Aryan" side seeking help for the uprising. The letter concluded with the following words: [* Note: Wording differs slightly in sources~See Version Below Video]

  Keep well.
Perhaps we’ll see each other.
What’s most important~the dream of my life has become a reality.
I lived to see Jewish defence in the ghetto in all its greatness and splendour...

To Live With Honour and Die With Honour

*** Letter as Quoted in the Above Video...

Peace go with you my friend.
Perhaps we shall meet again.
The main thing is the dream of my life has come true.
Self defense in the ghetto and Jewish armed resistance have become a reality.
I have lived to see the magnificent heroism of Jewish fighters in battle

Jewish Heroes Answer the Call of History

When Israel fought its war for independence the world opinion was that they didn't stand a chance. The British authorities at the time forbade the manufacture or purchase of weapons, the Jewish underground fighters had limited experience for large scale battles and they were grossly out numbered.

Then something amazing happened. Jews from all over the world~men and women, young and old, with and without experience~began to make their way to the fledgling country. They wanted to help~in any way they could.

Mitnadvei Chutz L'Aretz Shortened to מחל (Machal) or in English~Volunteers!  From the Machal Website:

The exact number of volunteers per country is still in some dispute, but the best estimate is that about 1,000 came from the United States with another 250 from Canada. Another 700 volunteered from South Africa, 600 from Great Britain, 250 from North Africa, 250 from Latin America, and still others from France and Belgium. There were also small contingents from Australia, the Belgium Congo, Rhodesia, Finland, and Russia. All told, Volunteers, both Jews and non-Jews and men and women, came from some 37 different countries to support the new Jewish State in her hour of greatest need.

This was the real spirit of the Jewish people, yet now, memories run short and many of the youth, and indeed the adults of our day have no knowledge of what it took for the Israeli flag to be raised over our country today. We must tell the story, we must insure that the youth of today realize how many heroes there are among the Jewish people~not just from the Bible, but from our recent history. We must all remain proud, and Never Forget!

You came to us when we needed you most,
during those difficult, uncertain days in our War of Independence.
You gave us not only your experience, but your lives as well.
The people of Israel and the State of Israel will never forget,
and will always cherish, this unique contribution made by you~

Margaret Thatcher~The "Iron Lady" is Dead at 87...

Margaret Thatcher, the green grocers daughter who became Britain's first Lady Prime Minister died on Monday, 08 April 2013. She governed Britain from 1979 to 1990. Much can be said pro and con, but anyone who is honest would admit that she is head and shoulders above any PM since.

I look with disgust at news of the anarchists and union thugs dancing in the streets, calling her vile names and holding hatred parties. There are no words for this type of vermin.

Below are two clips that show two sides of the same person. The first is from her 1980 speech, "The Lady's Not for Turning" .The second is one that may not be remembered by most. She was a great fan of the British comedy Yes, Minister and convinced them to allow her to write a short skit and actually perform it with the two main characters...I love it!

Lady Margaret Thatcher was a great lady~Sadly today's politicians couldn't even shine her shoes, much less fill them...May She Rest in Peace.

Golda Meir on Arab-Israeli Relations and Terrorism

Golda Meir (גּוֹלְדָּה מֵאִיר‎‎) nee Mabovich was born in Kiev on 03 May, 1898. Her father relocated to the USA to looking for work, and in 1906 he had saved enough money for his family to join him in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Golda became a leader early in life, when at the age of ten, she organized the American Young Sisters' Society to raise money to provide textbooks for needy school children. From that point, Golda dedicated her life to solving the problems of others.

She began dating Morris Meyerson in1913 and they married in 1917. She had set the precondition to the marriage that they would settle in what was then British Mandate Palestine~which they did in 1921.

The list of her accomplishments is long. Often viewed as the grandmother of the Jewish People, she was once called "the best man in the government" by former prime minister David Ben Gurion.

Dr. M. Kedar on Syria, the Muslim Brotherhood and Israel

In addition to twenty-five years experience in the IDF Military Intelligence, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Mordechai Kedar is a world expert on understanding the geo-political and military situation in the Middle East. He is one of the leading international authorities on the political discourse of Arab countries, terrorism, the Arab Spring and Palestinian statehood, and has published many works. Currently he is a lecturer at  Bar-Ilan University.

Fluent in Arabic and able to debate Muslims in their own language, Dr. Kedar has made several appearances on Al Jazeera. Most famously, perhaps, is when he boldly states the facts about Islam, Jerusalem and Israel, much to the dismay of the Al Jazeera interviewer! You can watch the clip at 28:28 (Dr. Kedar also explains how he came to be interviewed).

In this video he is speaking at the Sinai Indaba (South Africa) conference. His explanation  of the problems that are stirring up the Middle-East is especially valid today. He predicts exactly what is happening to date and identifies mistakes the west has made~and continues to make. Unless we learn to understand the mind-set of the people in this region, it will only get worse! Do Listen Carefully to what he has to say...

Israel Sends a Message to Anonymous....

* Thanks to Weasel Zippers for posting...
Israel hacks Anonymous #OpIsrael site~enjoy the Israeli National anthem and some real truth about the Israel and palestinian “question”. Israel doesn’t take anything lying down...

I did follow the link to OpIsrael site and listened to Hatikva and viewed the info. The following was posted there under A Few Forgotten Facts. I have added them here, but do go to their site and leave OpIsrael a message of congratulations!

[1] Israel became a nation in 1312 BCE, two thousand years before the rise of Islam.
[2] Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.
[3] Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 BCE, the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.
[4] The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 CE lasted no more than 22 years.
[5] For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.
[6] Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.
[7] King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.
[8] Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.
[9] In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.
[10] The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution, and slaughter.
[11] The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same. [Ed. Note: These figures differ widely, with Arabs listing as low as 450,000 and Jewish refugees listed as One Million. It is believed that the number of Jews expelled from Arab lands was far greater than the numbers of Arabs who left Israel~under direction of their own leaders]
[12] Arab refugees were intentionally not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own people's lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.
[13] The Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won.
[14] The PLO's Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.
[15] Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.
[16] The UN Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.
[17] Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel.
[18] The UN was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians.
[19] The UN was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.
[20] The UN was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like a policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.

Israel, Jerusalem, Judaism, Zionism, Middle East, Aliyah, Conversion, and everything else that pops up
